County Club Shield Championship Overview

Clubs are invited to compete for the Scratch Shield and/or the Handicap Shield, which are played for on the same day at a different club each year.

The Scratch Shield is for lady and junior girl golfers with Handicap Indexes up to 18.4 and the Handicap Shield for those with Handicap Indexes between 18.5 and 32.5. The competition is a 18 hole qualifying medal and is played in teams of 3 with each score counting towards the overall team total.  All players are required to have a minimum of three qualifying cards recorded on their WHS record in the 12 months prior to the competition.

In the Scratch competition the 3 gross scores are added together to get the team total and in the Handicap competition it is the net scores** that are taken.

The winner of each trophy will be the team with the lowest gross or net score**.   The Shields are awarded on the day to the winning teams.

In addition to the team competition there are also individual trophies for the best gross and net score** on the day.

The Ellis Trophy  is awarded to the player with the best gross score returned in the Scratch team competition.

The Vincent Trophy is awarded to the player with the best net score returned in the Handicap team competition.

There are also voucher prizes for the best net score in the Scratch team competition and the best gross score in the Handicap team competition.

**Net scores will be based on a Handicap Allowance of 95% x Course Handicap.
