The weather stayed fine and sunny for the start of the second day of the County Championship at Hinckley Golf Club.
Sixteen players battled it out in the quarter-finals match play of both the County Championship and the Russell Trophy in the morning session. All of the matches were hard fought but in the end there were some convincing wins for some of the players.
Caz Parkes-Walley, Tracy Bourne, Jo Morris and Ellie York came out on top in the Championship matches after the morning session and qualified for the semi- finals in the afternoon.
Emma Watson, Emily Dunne, Catherine Arter and Jo Mayfield won their matches in the morning to qualify for the semi-finals of the Russell Trophy in the afternoon.
Once again the afternoon matches were hard fought however play was suspended due to the threat of thunder and lightning. After a short break, play was resumed despite the continued threat of rain. Both Championship matches were completed before any rain came, with Tracy Bourne and Ellie York qualifying for the 36 hole final tomorrow.
All matches were eventually completed, and the winning semi-finalists for the Russell Trophy are Emily Dunne and Jo Mayfield.
Two of the finalists, one in each of the Championship and the Russell Trophy, are juniors - what a fantastic achievement!
The finals of both the Championship and the Russell Trophy are scheduled for tomorrow, the Championship will be competed over 36 holes, and the Russell Trophy over 18 holes.
The presentation of trophies to all of the winners will be made at close of play at around 5.30pm on Sunday.
Thank you to all supporters and friends who came out to support the players today.
