The final of the 2016 Ladies’ County Foursomes was held at Kibworth Golf Club on Sunday 4 September. 25 teams had entered this year’s competition and the two teams remaining to battle it out in the final were Ullesthorpe Golf Club and Rothley Park Golf Club. There had been some heavy overnight rain and the day was overcast and windy but all of the players coped well with the conditions and there was some excellent golf played during this final encounter.
During the early part of the match both Ullesthorpe teams were ahead but as the round progressed the Rothley girls fought back to reduce the deficit. There were some excellent birdies from both teams on various holes and by the start of the 18th hole the first match was all square and Ullesthorpe were one up in the second. After a tense walk down the 18th hole both matches ended all square and the teams were then required to play a further three holes to determine the eventual winners.
Both teams fought hard over these extra holes and after some more good golf the Rothley Park girls managed to win both matches and become the 2016 Ladies County Foursomes winners.
Congratulations to both teams for reaching the final and putting on an entertaining match. Special congratulations go to Rothley Park for their win (their first in this competition for many years) and commiserations to the runners up Ullesthorpe.
Thank you to all of the spectators who turned out to support both teams and contributed to the success of the day, and also to Dorothy Jones who acted as referee on the day.
