The qualifying round of the 2017 Baxter Trophy was played today, Sunday 1 October, at Longcliffe Golf Club. Despite the dire weather warnings earlier in the week, the rain mostly stayed away although it was very damp underfoot which made playing conditions difficult. However some good scores were returned during the day. The best gross score of the day was 75 (on count back) returned by Steve Critchley and Sarah Haslam playing on their home course. Two other teams returned a gross score of 75 and qualify for the match play semi finals due to be played on Sunday 15 October - John Fairbrother and Gemma Parkes-Walley of Cosby Golf Club and Simon Jackson and Annabel Bailey of Kirby Muxloe. The fourth pair qualifying were Luke Burrows and Carolyn Parkes-Walley of Cosby Golf Club with a gross score of 76.
The best nett score (on count back) of 72 was returned by Jonathan Golding and Andrena Porter of Hinckley Golf Club. The second nett prize was won by Will Watkins and Lyndsey Wheeler of Lutterworth Golf Club also with a score of 72.
Congratulations to all players taking part in this competition today.
