2017 L&RLCGA County Championship Day 3

LRLCGA Noticeboard : 2017 L&RLCGA County Championship Day 3

Sunny and fine conditions returned for the final day of the 2017 L&RLCGA County Championships at Kibworth Golf Club.  Four players remained to contest the finals of the Championship and the Russell Trophy.

The finalists for the Russell Trophy, Rachel East (Cosby) and Clare Bailey (Birstall) tee-d off first, the final being played over 18 holes.  It was a close fought match throughout, being all square by the end of 16 holes.  Rachel then managed to win the final two holes to win the overall match 2 and 1.  Congratulations to Rachel on winning the Russell Trophy and to Clare for reaching the final.  Rachel previously won this trophy 20 years ago.

The Championship final was battled out over 36 holes – Caz Parkes-Walley (Cosby) and Olivia Barrs (Lingdale and County Girls Captain) were our finalists today.  At the half way stage after 18 holes, Caz was 4 holes up. There was some stunning golf played, in particular some excellent approach shots into the green. Eventually, Caz’s experience showed and she finally won the match 9 and 7 to become the L&RLCGA 2017 County Champion.

Some excellent golf has been played throughout the weekend, the weather has been mostly kind and all spectators have enjoyed following the progress of the golfers over the three days.

Congratulations to all of our players and winners over this weekend, and particularly to Caz Parkes-Walley our 2017 Champion,on not only winning the Championship for the second time, but also pulling off the double by winning the Strokeplay Championship on Friday.

Thank you yet again to all supporters and to Kibworth Golf Club (Lady Captain Cheryl McGann and Vice Captain Frances Rowlands in particular) for their support and welcome throughout the weekend.
