The first day of the Leicestershire & Rutland County Championships took place today, Friday 4 May 2018 at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club. 28 ladies had entered the competition this year and took to the course in cloudy but pleasant conditions, more short sleeves than long.
All competitors played 36 holes stroke play to qualify for the knock out stages of this year's Championship. The top eight players qualify for the Championship quarter and semi-finals and the next eight qualify for the Russell Trophy quarter and semi-finals due to be played on Saturday 6 May.
Players found the course long and challenging but despite this there were some good scores returned in both the morning and afternoon sessions.
The best gross score of the day over the two rounds was 151 by Carolyn Parkes-Walley of Lutterworth Golf Club. The net prize went to Ellie York of Hinckley Golf Club with a gross score of 155 less 10 to give a net score of 145. Second net was Gemma Parkes-Walley of Lutterworth Golf Club with a gross score of 158 less 10 to give a net score of 148.
The eight qualifiers for the Championship match play are Carolyn Parkes-Walley, Jo Morris, Ellie York, Helen Lowe, Gemma Parkes-Walley, Karen Haynes, Olivia Barrs and Jo Mayfield.
The eight qualifiers for the Russell Trophy match play are Tracy Bourne, Tracey Bates, Cath Arter, Kirsten Thorpe, Imogen Huxley, Rachel East, Sally Jee and Sharon Statham.
A good day was had by all and we now look forward to the quarter and semi-finals of both the Championship and the Russell Trophy which take place tomorrow. All supporters are welcome.
