The semi-final and final rounds of the Baxter Trophy were played today at Hinckley Golf Club on Sunday 20 October. The weather was relatively kind after several days of rain, there was some sunshine in the morning followed by a slightly dull and overcast afternoon. As expected there was some fabulous golf played in both of the semi-final matches.
Both semi-final matches were hard fought. The first match was between Cosby Golf Club and Hinckley Golf Club with Cosby eventually winning the match 3 and 2 and qualifying for the afternoon's final.
The second match was between Luffenham Heath and Rothley Park. Luffenham Heath won this match 4 and 3 and also qualified for the final.
The afternoon final was therefore contested between Luffenham Heath Golf Club and Cosby Golf Club. Following on from the morning’s play, some more quality golf was on display in the afternoon.
Both teams were playing well but Cosby, the defending champions, managed to establish a strong position at the turn being 5 holes ahead. They maintained this lead closing out the game on the 14th hole and winning the match and the Baxter Trophy 5 and 4.
Congratulations to all of the teams who reached the semi-finals and final of the Baxter Trophy this year and particular congratulations to the winners, Cosby Golf Club on winning this trophy for the second year running. Thank you to all of the supporters who turned out to cheer on their respective teams during the day and contributed to making it a special day.
The teams were represented by the following players:
Cosby – Rachel East and John Fairbrother
Luffenham Heath – Karen Haynes and David Smith
