In their second match of the season the Leicestershire and Rutland County Junior Girls 2nd team played Lincolnshire at Birstall Golf Club on Sunday 2 July May 2017.
On the day of the match one of our players was taken ill and could not play thus gifting Lincolnshire a match.
However, the rest of the team played excellent golf; Victoria Mayfield won her match 6 & 5 showing some fantastic short game skills and Francesca Brimm had a nip and tuck match against her opponent having to chip in to claim at least 2 holes finally winning 1up on the 18th. Ruth Brookes had a real fight on her hands taking her match down the 18th but in the end lost 1down. In the final match Aimee Cleminson, on her birthday, came up against a very much in form young Lincolnshire player. Both girls played well below their handicaps but despite Aimee coming back towards the end from being 4 down after the 14th she eventually lost 3 & 1.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable match played in great weather with good parental support on a course that really suited the girls’ games.
Result: Leicestershire and Rutland 2- Lincolnshire 3.
The next match will be at the regional finals day at Trent Lock on 21 August 2017.
The opponents are yet to be decided as it will depend on the result of the match between Notts and Lincs on 16 July 2017.
