LRLCGA Noticeboard : County Captains Day

A Glorious County Captain’s Day at Cosby Golf Club

Sunday 13th September 2026

What a fantastic day we had at Cosby Golf Club for Leicestershire & Rutland Ladies County Golf Association County Captain Rachel East’s County Captain’s Day.

Although the day started with a little rain, the clouds soon cleared and the sun came out, giving us glorious conditions for a wonderful day of golf, friendship and celebration.

An incredible 106 women took part, competing in two different competitions designed to provide an opportunity for golfers of all abilities to enjoy the day.

Ladies with a Handicap Index of 30.1 and below competed in a 4BBB, while ladies with a Handicap Index of 30.1 and above, as well as those new to golf without a handicap, competed in a 3 Ball Am-Am with one score to count.

The Club house was decorated throughout in the County colours of blue and white.

The team responsible for setting up the event did an incredible job. From the beautiful floral golf bags and golf-themed table decorations to the huge selfie frame, every detail helped create a real sense of occasion and made the day feel extra special.

The Halfway House was also beautifully decorated in blue and white, with a splash of yellow as a nod to the Solheim Cup – a lovely touch for a weekend celebrating women’s golf.

A huge thank you must go to all the ladies who baked cakes for the day. The cake spread was simply exceptional, with an amazing selection to choose from!

It was also lovely to welcome SurprizeShop to the clubhouse with a pop-up shop, giving players the opportunity to have a browse before heading out onto the course. Gemma was fantastic, and we are incredibly grateful to SurprizeShop for donating £102.58 from their sales to our chosen charities, Rainbows Children’s Hospice and Ward 27 at the Leicester Royal Infirmary Children’s Cancer Ward.

Beat the Pro

A highlight of the day was the Beat the Pro challenge on the 10th hole, hosted by former County Champion and PGA Professional Trainee Holly Waterfield.

Holly proved just how good she is, with only 9 ladies from the entire field managing to beat her!

A huge thank you to Trust for sponsoring the challenge and helping to make it such an enjoyable part of the day.

Congratulations to our Winners

There were some fantastic scores across both competitions.

Raising Money for Charity

The County Captain’s Day also provided an opportunity to raise money for charity through our 100 Square, which was won by Peggy Remington, Ruth Sinclair, Ivan Bills and Kate Shave.

The 100 Square raised an additional £147, bringing the total raised from the day to an amazing £249.58 for our chosen charities.

Thank You

A day like this doesn't happen without an enormous amount of work behind the scenes.

A huge thank you to everyone who played, baked, decorated, organised, sponsored, volunteered, donated and supported the event, both on the day and in the weeks leading up to it and to Cosby Golf Club for giving courtesy of the course.

From the incredible team who transformed Cosby Golf Club, to everyone who helped with the competitions, refreshments, charity fundraising and activities, your contribution made the day the success that it was.

Most importantly, thank you to the 106 ladies who came along and made the day so special. It was wonderful to see so many women from across Leicestershire and Rutland coming together to enjoy their golf, make memories and celebrate our County Association.

It was truly a fantastic County Captain’s Day, and one that Rachel and the County Association will remember for a long time.

Thank you, everyone, for making it such a special day.
