Well the day started with the previous winner arriving with a rather substantial wooden box and locked within was the amazing Goodyear Challenge Cup. I had heard the Trophy was something to behold and to honest it was! There are not too many Trophies that are transported around in a locked wooden box with instructions as to how it is to be assembled and a typed note giving its provenance!
The Trophy was donated to The Leicestershire Golf Club in 1897 with the proviso it was played for by the Ladies of Leicestershire & Rutland, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire and that has continued to be the tradition with the latest challenge taking place here in Leicestershire.
Ullesthorpe Golf Club were the host club this year and forty-two players from three Counties took on the challenge and fought their way around tricky greens and what I am told by the players a very tricky 18th Hole!
Home advantage was taken with the Winner of the Goodyear Challenge for 2018 being Elaine Watkins of Ullesthorpe with a great Nett score of 69.
Best Scratch of the day went to Mary MacLaren of Wellingborough Golf Club with a great gross score of 76.
