Day 2 of the Championship at The Leicestershire Golf Club has been much brighter but very cold. However this has not affected the quality of golf played today with some very tight matches. Sixteen players battled it out in the quarter-finals match play of both the County Championship and the Russell Trophy in the morning session. All of the matches were hard fought but in the end there were convincing wins for some of the players but two matches went to extra holes. Helen Lowe, Tracy Bourne, Caz Parkes-Walley and Gemma Parkes-Walley came out on top in the Championship matches after the morning session and qualified for the semi-finals in the afternoon. Eleanor Parkinson, Helen Perry, Victoria Mayfield and Kirsten Thorpe (Junior County Captain) won their matches in the morning. It was very pleasing to see that three of the qualifiers for the semi-finals of the Russell Trophy in the afternoon were juniors. Once again, the afternoon matches were hard fought with Helen Lowe and Caz Parkes-Walley qualifying for the 36 hole final tomorrow. The winning semi-finalists for the Russell Trophy are Helen Perry and Kirsten Thorpe. The finals of both the Championship and the Russell Trophy are scheduled for tomorrow, the Championship will be competed over 36 holes, and the Russell Trophy over 18 holes. The presentation of trophies to all of the winners will be made at close of play at around 5.00pm on Sunday. Thank you to all supporters and friends who came out to support the players today.
