L&RLCGA Strength & Conditioning Golf Fitness Programme
With Matt Rollins Golf Fitness
L&RLCGA has successfully started its new Strength & Conditioning Golf Fitness programme in partnership with Matt Rollins Golf Fitness. Two introductory sessions have already taken place, one evening session and one Saturday morning session, both of which were very well attended and positively received.
The opening session provided a comprehensive overview of the key physical components required to enhance golf performance. Matt introduced members to the fundamental areas of training essential for long-term development, including mobility, strength, stability, power, and injury prevention.
Practical elements of the sessions included:
Pre-round and range warm-up routines (both with and without a golf club) Strength training exercises specific to golf development of explosive power, golf-specific movement drills designed to improve efficiency and control.
In addition to the physical training, the sessions encouraged open discussion around areas of the game members felt they wished to improve. One common concern raised was whether speed training might negatively impact accuracy and consistency on the course.
Matt addressed this by explaining that strength training, when programmed alongside separate speed training, actually raises the athlete’s overall power ceiling. This approach enables golfers to improve their top-end speed and increase their natural on-course swing speed without compromising control or accuracy.
The early sessions have provided members with a clear understanding of how structured, golf-specific physical training can positively influence performance throughout the season.
Following the sessions, Matt commented:
“I really enjoyed working with everyone and wish the whole group a great season ahead.”
L&RLCGA looks forward to continuing the programme and supporting members in developing stronger, more resilient and more powerful golf performance throughout the year.
