On Sunday 28th July the First team girls travelled to Lincoln Golf club for their second match of the season. With Leicestershire putting out our strongest team we were optimistic about our matches and after a team talk with county ladies vice captain Jo the team set out in high spirits against a tough Nottinghamshire side.
All matches were very tight as expected with Nottinghamshire fielding their top three players off 5 handicap and below.
Kirsten and Victoria both gained a credible half after two very tight matches which could of gone either way.
Both Eleanor and Francesca lost 3&2 and Holly bought in our first point after beating her opponent 4&2.
The final result being a 2-3 loss for Leicestershire.
The afternoon's match was against Staffordshire. After a regroup at lunch the girls set out with determination to win after the close match from the morning. Captain Kirsten led the way with Eleanor following behind. Both girls played stunning golf but unfortunately Kirsten lost 3&2 and Eleanor lost 4&3.
With the girls spirits not dampened despite the weather our last three matches were hard fought and incredible to watch. Holly bought up the rear with a stunning 8&7 win which left Victoria and Francesca still fighting going down 18.
Victoria made an incredible up and down on the last to win 1up and Francesca held her nerve with an amazing two putt to win the hole and the match 2up.
This meant that the result was a 3-2 win for Leicestershire against a side which is one of the strongest in the league.
Fantastic results from the girls against two very tough sides. The future is looking bright for Leicestershire county and we take on Lincolnshire on finals day at Trent Lock on the 19th August.
