On Sunday 30th August 2026 40 girls aged 10 to 18 from Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire met at The Leicestershire Golf Club to participate in the Midlands North Region Girls’ Championship. The girls with Handicap Indexes below 16.4 played in the 36 Hole Championship and those with HI’s from 16.5 to 36.0 played in the 18 hole Challenge competition. New for this year was a 9 hole Stableford competition for girls with HIs from 36.0 to 54.0 and in addition 3 local young girls completed a 9 hole card for handicap purposes. Alongside the Championship was a County Team competition in which the best two 36 hole scores of three nominated players count.
What a delight to see so many girls playing golf and the welcome from The Leicestershire was second to none. Players and their parents were initially met and welcomed in the car park, which was much appreciated by those who had never visited the club before, but the hospitality continued throughout the day and our thanks go to the Club for all their support.
The first round of the 36 Hole Championship teed off early at 8.30am followed by the 18 Hole Challenge and the 9 hole Stableford before lunch, with the second round of the 36 Hole Championship teeing off just after lunch. There was some superb golf played and it was interesting to see how consistent the girls were with many scoring exactly the same in their morning and afternoon rounds, with the winner of the 36 Hole Championship Denni Coleman from Llanymynech Golf Club scoring 75 gross on each round.
