REPORT 2

Monday 15th July 2019 - Leicestershire & Rutland v LIncolnshire at Stoke Rochford Golf Club

This was our second away match of the season against Lincolnshire at Stoke Rochford Golf Club, and we were hopeful of an improved result from the previous week's result at Nottinghamshire. On arrival at Stoke Rochford, the sun was out and the temperature was already rising. It was going to be another hot one! The course was in great condition with fast, receptive greens, and we set out in the morning foursomes full of hope.

Sally Lax and Katie Underwood led the way, followed by Clare Bailey and Helen Perry, with Captain Sue Holwell and Karen Bonser bringing up the rear. Unfortunately, both Sally and Katie, and Clare and Helen lost, but Sue and Karen won, leaving us trailing 2-1 at the lunchtime break.

With everything still to play for, we set out in the afternoon singles full of confidence. All of the games were very close and with the increasing temperatures out on the course, everyone found the going very tough. Three of the matches went to the 18th and could have gone either way. Katie, Helen and Cath Arter didn't quite get the results, with Cath losing to a chip-in from the rough on the 17th. Clare and Sue managed to halve their matches, and Sally finished off in style on 18 by chipping in to win her match.

The overall result was a 6-3 win for Lincolnshire.

Our next outing is on Thursday 1st August at Luffenham Heath Golf Club for the return fixture against Lincolnshire.
