LEICESTERSHIRE & RUTLAND LADIES COUNTY 2nd TEAM REPORT 4

Sunday 5^th August 2018 - Leicestershire & Rutland v Lincolnshire at Market Rasen Golf Club

This was our final match of the season against Lincolnshire at Market Rasen Golf Course and the outcome of this match would determine the overall league winners. Based upon the previous match results Leicestershire & Rutland needed a half or a win to qualify for the Midlands North regional Finals.

Leicestershire & Rutland fielded a strong side Cath Arter (Rothley), Clare Bailey (Birstall), Rachel East (Cosby), Alison Horak (Ullesthorpe), Sally Lax (Market Harbourgh), Alison Smith (Rothley) and Barbara Suffolk (Lingdale). All of the players had represented the 2^nd team in previous matches throughout the season and were united as a squad.

The course was in superb condition and proved to be a very good test of golf, with some interesting holes which overlooked the racecourse. The weather conditions were also testing with temperatures reaching 29 degrees.

Leicestershire & Rutland ladies played some excellent golf in the morning foursomes games and secured a 2- 1 lead to set us up for the singles. Cath Arter and Alison Smith won 3&2, Clare Bailey & Rachel East won 1up and Alison Horak & Barbara Sulfolk lost 1down.

The afternoon singles matches were all very close after the front 9 holes and lots of matches could have gone in either county’s favour. All of the ladies played some tremendous golf and showed great team spirit and comaradary. The first two matches both went to the 18^th hole, one match went to Lincolnshire and one went to Leicestershire & Rutland. Barbara Suffolk lost 2down and Sally Lax won 1up. Cath Arter out third, lost to a very talented up and coming junior, Courtney Martland. Clare Bailey won 4&3 to make the score 4-3 to Leicestershire & Rutland with two matches left out on the course. We needed to win one of the last two matches to win the game and the league. Rachel East was one up playing the 17^th and managed to win the hole to secure a win for the team. Alison Horak fought well in the final match and played some great golf but unfortunately lost. All of the matches were played in great spirit and the final score was Leicestershire & Rutland 5 and Lincolnshire 4. 

A fantastic result for Leicestershire & Rutland, not only did they win the match, they have also won the League and will represent the area in the Midlands North Regional Final on Thursday 30^th August 2018 at Rothley Golf Course. The last time Leicestershire & Rutland qualified was in 2012, when Moira Page was County 2^nd team Captain and this year she is our County President.
