A Foursomes Competition will be held, for which Clubs may enter on the following conditions:
- Clubs must be affiliated to the L&RLCGA.
- All players to be current members of the County Association, and bona fide members of the club they are representing.
- A player may not represent more than one club in the Ladies County Foursomes competition in any given season. It is not necessary for the club to be represented by the same players throughout the competition.
Organisation of competition
- The Tournament shall take the form of a knock-out competition of foursomes under handicap, one Club against another as determined by a draw.
- Each club shall be represented by a team consisting of two pairs in each match. The combined Handicap Index limit will be 48.0.
- All matches to be played as per the draw. The Home Club to be the top of the draw. This applies to the first three rounds only. The semi-final will be played at the course of the home team in the other half of the draw so that both matches are played on a neutral course. The final will be played on a neutral course arranged by the Competitions' Secretary.
- In the event of any unforeseen circumstances, the Executive Committee is empowered to alter the date of any round if necessary.
- In the event of extreme conditions likely to affect the play of the course, the Executive Committee reserves the right to allocate another course.
- In the event of a club not being able to field a team in any round, they may not be eligible for entry to the competition the following year at the discretion of the Executive Committee. The opposing club will go through on a bye.
- Home clubs are expected to make a practice round possible for visiting clubs, if requested, or, if that is not possible, to at least offer the visiting team a reduced green fee.
- All disputes shall be settled by the Executive Committee, whose decision shall be final.
Playing of matches
- Matches shall be two games of foursomes match play, played over a round of eighteen (18) holes and the winning Club to be decided on the aggregate of the two games. Matches to be played off the difference between each pair's Playing Handicap - the Playing Handicap of each pair being 50% of their combined Course Handicaps, rounded to the nearest whole number, with .5 rounded upwards (Rule 6).
- All matches shall be governed by the Rules of Golf plus local rules in operation for the course over which the match is played, excluding any local rule alternative for stroke and distance.
- Matches to be played on a course with an applicable Course and Slope Rating and no more than two temporary greens in play. Every effort should be made to play the course at its measured length as defined by its Course and Slope Rating.
- Matches in the first three rounds to commence no earlier than 5 pm unless a prior agreement has been made between the Clubs. The start time of the semi-finals to be arranged between 4.00pm and 5.00pm by mutual agreement between the two clubs involved. The final to begin not later than 2.30 pm. For the purposes of Rules of Golf 5-3a When to Start a Round the first game is due to commence at the agreed start time of the match. The second game is due to commence 10 minutes later. If Clubs are unable to agree a starting time for a semi-final, the Executive Committee to be informed and they will have the final decision.
- Written notification of teams and handicaps must be exchanged at least ten minutes prior to the agreed starting time, and after that no substitutes are allowed.
- In the event of a tie after 18 holes, the match shall continue by both pairs playing hole by hole until one side is up, except in the final when after 18 holes three holes shall be played by both pairs. If the match is then still all-square, a further three holes to be played until one side is up. Extra holes should be considered an extension to the round [Rule of Golf 3.2a(4)]. Consequently, the honour shall continue and players must continue playing alternate tee shots as before i.e. not reverse their order. If the result is beyond doubt before the further three holes have been completed by both teams, the losing team may decide to concede and not play out the remaining holes.
- The Competitions' Secretary is to be notified of the results of the matches within 24 hours of the match being played, by the Captain of the winning team.
- All matches should be played on the date stipulated by the draw, unless the course has been closed by the host Club. In this event, the match should be rearranged as soon as practicable by mutual consent, ensuring that it is completed at least 14 days before the next round.
- Once started, if a match cannot be completed due to a) the course becoming unplayable due to water logging (holes under water), b) play is suspended due to threat of lightning and/or c) insufficient light to complete the games, the following shall apply:
- If the aggregate of the games means that the overall match result is mathematically beyond doubt, then the result stands as at the suspension of play
- If this cannot be applied, then the match should be suspended and a new date(s) arranged to complete the unfinished games. The games will restart at the point where they were suspended. This must be within ten (10) days of the original date AND ensure that it is completed at least 14 days before the next round. Where rearranged date(s) cannot be agreed, a decision will be taken by the Executive Committee. The requirement to rearrange does not take priority over competitors’ rights under Rule 3.2b(1) Concession of match, hole or next stroke in relation to the original game (ie A player may concede a match at any time prior to the start or conclusion of that match).
- Motorised “Sit-On” Golf Carts/Buggies may only be used in strict compliance with the County Transportation policy.
