England Golf Australian Spoons MNR Qualifier
Well what a lovely day was had by all for the Midlands North Regional Final of the Australian Spoons.
For those of you who don't know Leicestershire & Rutland Ladies County Golf Association is one of 6 regions that make up the Midlands North and we host a competition most years on behalf of England Golf.
This year it was our turn to host the regional qualifier for the Australian Spoons and we were delighted when Kirby Muxloe Golf Course agreed to be our Venue for this event.
We had 40 teams enter, so 80 players in total and the day started off a little chilly and it would be fair to say the weather was changeable throughout the day but no thunderstorms thankfully, so all games were completed on time.
The course was in fantastic condition and the greens were speedy and all the players agreed the course was lovely so all credit to the greenkeepers.
We had five prizes this year and fully result can be found using the link below.

County Week - Final Day
County Week Day 3 Sunday 18 th June
Leicestershire & Rutland Vs Shropshire
Heavy rain overnight and early morning had not softened the course at all for a ‘tricky’ fixture with
high flying Shropshire
Only a morning session of play today
The two foursomes parings today were led out by Vicky and Eleanor starting on the 1st tee and went
3 down very early on, however an excellent bunker shot by Vicky and a great putt by Eleanor on the
short par 3 4th hole was the start of a great rally by this pairing who fought very hard to get back to 1
down at the turn. Some excellent golf by all players on the back 9 the score was L & R 1 down on the
18th tee. A great drive from Eleanor and an excellent shot to the green by Vicky meant we had a putt
to halve the match but unfortunately the putt just slipped by leaving the score 1 up to Shropshire.
The second pairing of Karen and Rachel got off to a good start with some great play from both
players, 1 up after 9, they were both very steady and capitalised on a couple of errors off the tee by
the Shropshire pairing and secured a point on the 17th winning 2 & 1
The team were represented by Ellie, Holly and Caz in the singles matches with all 3 getting off to
good, steady starts. Ellie was 2 up quite quickly and maintained this lead until the 13th when the
Shropshire player started coming back into the game, all square after 14th Ellie eventually lost 2 & 1
Holly – having played in every session gaining some great points for the team came up against an
excellent opponent today. The Shropshire player had 3 birdies in a row on the back 9 to Hollys pars
and won 4 & 3
Caz’s match was very even throughout the front 9 – a very young opponent who hit some very clean
accurate shots and had the pace of the greens throughout the match. This was a very even game
but unfortunately Caz lost out on the 17th losing 2 & 1
The short par 4 14th hole had proved difficult for L & R all weekend and today was no exception with
quite a few of the weekend matches changing on this hole.
Result: 4 – 1 to Shropshire
The overall result for the weekend was a win for the hosts Lincolnshire winning 22 games (out of 25)
and a very much changed team of Shropshire gaining a surprising runner – up spot
Leicestershire & Rutland came 6th which was, of course very disappointing for the Captain, Vice
Captain and all the players. We hope the closer venue of Burton on Trent for next years County
Week will result in support from the County to encourage and cheer our players on.
